About:
Joshua Olivier Gordon is a virtuosic orchestral cellist that has a passion not only for symphony playing, but also for performing a wide range of musical genres.
Joshua built his unique sound from performing a variety of styles like: Reggae, Kompa, and other Caribbean styles of music from his parents. This influence eventually manifested into an obsession for mastery of differently styles. Joshua has honed the skills and practice of all these styles during his time with several groups, such as: the Classical Revolution Quartet, The Bear Valley Festival Orchestra. The Southern Arizona Symphony, Civic Orchestra of Tucson, Tucson Repertory Orchestra, and the Colour of Music Festival orchestra. Joshua is currently pursuinga his endeavors under the mentorship of Dr. Theodore Buchholz.
Versatility:
Joshua is a conservatory-trained classical musician, however, he spends extensive amounts of time learning different styles and techniques (such as: Jazz, Baroque, and rock) from experienced professionals around the country. These experiences have also led Joshua to develop an effective improvising style that allows him to adapt to many different ensembles. Joshua Currently serves as the primary cellist for ‘The Toledo Show’ in Los Angeles; and as director, composer, and owner of the 520 Jazz Collective in Tucson, Arizona.
Composition:
What began as composing and arranging church music, where he performed alongside his siblings, eventually cultivated into a flowing passion for creating music. Today, Joshua arranges and records pop/contemporary works for string quartets and mixed ensembles. His works have been performed at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, the New Directions Cello Festival, and the Bear Valley Music Festival.
