“I don’t call myself a cellist; but rather, an artist who expresses themself via cello”

Joshua Gordon

About:

Joshua Olivier Gordon is a virtuosic orchestral cellist that has a passion not only for symphony playing, but also for performing a wide range of musical genres.

Born in Miami, Florida, and raised in Arizona to Caribbean immigrant parents, Joshua has always had a fascination with sounds, which came from hearing Reggae, Kompa, and other Caribbean styles of music from his parents. This influence eventually manifested into a passion for performing. He has performed with several groups, such as: the Classical Revolution Quartet, The Southern Arizona Symphony, Civic Orchestra of Tucson, Tucson Repertory Orchestra, and the Colour of Music Festival orchestra. Joshua currently studies under the tutelage of Juliette Herlin.

Versatility:

Joshua is a conservatory-trained classical musician, however, he spends extensive amounts of time learning different styles and techniques (such as: Jazz, Baroque, and rock) from experienced professionals around the country. These experiences have also led Joshua to develop an effective improvising style that allows him to adapt to many different ensembles.

Composition:

Joshua also experiments with composing and arranging. Joshua began arranging music for a church in Arizona, where he performed alongside his siblings. Today, he arranges and records pop/contemporary works for string quartets and mixed ensembles. His works have been performed at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and the New Directions Cello Festival.
